Sunday Brings the Full Worm Moon

You’re going to want to get outside on Sunday night and spend some time gazing at the Full Worm Moon.

While it has many names that include Crow, Crust, Sap, or Sugar Moon to name just a few, March’s full moon is known as the Full Worm Moon because this is the season where the ground began to soften so that earthworms could appear, drawing more birds to feed, according to the Farmer's Almanac, and because it symbolizes the beginning of spring.

Winter is over and the Worm Moon signifies that spring has sprung!

While the jury is out on if this is technically a Supermoon or not, it doesn’t change the fact that these are special, as there are only a handful of these that happen every year. We won’t have to wait long, though, as the first actual supermoon of 2021 comes in April with the Pink Full Moon.

Supermoons occur when the moon is within 90 percent of perigree, or when it's closest to Earth during its orbit, according to CNN. This is why the Moon appears so large and so bright in the nighttime sky.
